Leadership Project (BELP)
The provision of technical assistance,
resources, information and professional development events for teachers and practitioners
of career technical education (CTE) is a major requirement of the federal
Perking Leadership Funds. The BELP contract continues the provision of
statewide service to the field. In California, CTE encompasses 15 priority
industry sectors, with each containing various career pathways for
students. The BELP project supports the two industry sectors of Business
& Finance, and Marketing, Sales & Services.
Local administrators, faculty, and staff
need professional development, resources, model curricula, and assessment
tools, as well as skills in building partnerships. More importantly, the
role of business education must be identified within a standards-based
instructional system, if programs are to successfully prepare students with
skills necessary to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.
We are fortunate to have this state-wide
project housed at the Placer County Office of Education. PCOE was chosen
to house this contract because of its background and expertise in assisting
the California Department of Education with necessary modifications to the
career technical delivery system for Business Education. Sheryl Ryder, PCOE's
Executive Director of Career Development, was the past BELP Coordinator and
oversees the project. Molly Anderson is the current BELP Project
Coordinator with over 25 years of high school Business
Education experience and is facilitating the current work of the contract.
