The Jumpstart Placer County Office of Education Interagency Assessment Center (PCOE-IAC) is designed to provide a center based, early intensive behavioral intervention for children referred by Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) who have a diagnosis of Autism or an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Center-Based Instruction serves a small group of 8 children per day. The Instructional day is 5 hours long for 4 days per week. The instructional setting provides a low adult-to-child ratio, with access to a motor room. This intensive program focuses on both individual and small-group instruction. It ensures both one-on-one structured group activities and playtime activities facilitating language development, motor development and social-emotional and behavioral growth and generalization of skills.
Jumpstart Multidisciplinary Team
Support staff specialists work with program staff and parents to address each individual child's needs.

Our intensive, comprehensive and multidisciplinary program is based on evidence-based best practices. We utilize current available research, theory and best practices from multiple disciplines educating children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Staff continue to develop professional skills through attending conferences, in-service trainings and visiting model programs. Training opportunities through the Placer County SELPA and the Placer County Office of Education may include intensive behavioral intervention, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and structured teaching.
We are Partners with Parents beginning with the referral from ACRC. Parents are actively involved in all aspects of the assessment process. The Jumpstart PCOE-IAC provides multiple opportunities for parents to expand the knowledge and skills necessary to raise a child with special needs.
The Jumpstart PCOE-IAC provides each child with on-going comprehensive assessment. This includes intensive instruction, observation (including our observation room) and data gathering in one-to-one and small group settings. This data is used to systematically determine the most effective strategies for each child.
Staff specialists make monthly home visits to support the child in the home setting, the child's natural environment, demonstrating effective strategies and addressing specific family needs and interests. The School Psychologist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Behavior Specialist and Education Specialist also select, develop and oversee the strategies and methods used in the home training and support components of the Jumpstart PCOE-IAC program. Basic training is provided to teach families how to use research-supported best practices strategies for fostering language development and social emotional growth in environments outside the educational setting, and to develop and understanding of typical child development.
Parent Support Group
The group meets 1-2 times per month. Parents provide practical support and information for each other to successfully addressing the needs of their children. This group meeting also provides critical, updated information about community resources available to families.
Transition to Preschool
A series of coordinated transition activities are designed to assist the receiving school district in development a comprehensive transition to appropriate services at the age of 3. This may include opportunities for district staff to consult with Jumpstart PCOE-IAC staff and observe the child.
